What to Buy First in Boat Race with 99 Engines: Early Builds
Last updated:
Your next purchase should support your next activity. Compare what an item adds over your current equipment, then spend toward racing bonuses, faster training, or Luck before hatching.
After the tutorial’s 4-Wins engine upgrade, choose Canadian Canoe at 100 Wins for racing or Luck, or Starter Engine for training, assuming you still use Wooden Raft and Basic Engine Level 2. With no trail, White is a practical 200-Wins racing purchase. If you have no pet, reserve 30 Wins for one egg, and protect your next equipment budget before buying more hatches.

Spend for Your Next Goal
Complete the tutorial’s 4-Wins Basic Engine upgrade, then use your spendable Wins balance to pick an immediate goal.
| Your situation | Recommended next spend | Why |
|---|---|---|
| No pet, with 30 Wins to spare | One 30-Wins egg | Adds an early pet opportunity to your setup. |
| Wooden Raft and Basic Engine Level 2, with 100 Wins | Canadian Canoe for racing or Luck; Starter Engine for training | The better purchase depends on which stats you need next. |
| No trail, with 200 Wins available for racing | White | Adds +50% Wins and +50% Acc in the trail category. |
| Already own Starter Engine Level 1 and want a small training upgrade | Spend 70 Wins to reach Level 3 | Raises Train from +10% to +12%, with Wins and Acc increases too. |
| Saving for a specific item | Keep its purchase budget aside | Extra hatches delay a guaranteed equipment purchase. |
A hatch is random: another opening can give you another Dog instead of a stronger replacement. Set an egg allowance after reserving your equipment money; the egg cost planner helps budget multiple openings.
Claim available Online Gifts while saving. Power and Wins rewards can support your next goal without using your equipment budget.
Canadian Canoe or Starter Engine at 100 Wins?
Buy Canadian Canoe first for racing or hatch preparation; buy Starter Engine first for training. This comparison starts with Wooden Raft and Basic Engine Level 2 equipped.
Both purchases cost 100 Wins. Compare each with the item it replaces:
| Purchase | Current equipment and bonuses | New bonuses | Gain from replacing the current item |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canadian Canoe | Wooden Raft: +10% Wins, +5% Luck, +20% Acc | +20% Wins, +7% Luck, +50% Acc | +10 points Wins, +2 points Luck, +30 points Acc |
| Starter Engine Level 1 | Basic Engine Level 2: +6% Wins, +11% Acc, +6% Train | +10% Wins, +20% Acc, +10% Train | +4 points Wins, +9 points Acc, +4 points Train |
The canoe gives the larger Wins and Acc increases from this starting setup, plus a Luck improvement. Starter Engine is the choice that improves Train while you keep your current boat.
These gains are percentage-point differences between equipment bonuses, not final speed or earnings increases. If your Basic Engine is at another level, compare against that level’s stats.
You can eventually equip Canadian Canoe and Starter Engine together because they belong to different equipment categories. Choose which to buy first, then add the other when it supports your next goal. See the boat catalog and engine stats by level for other replacements.
An Early Racing Build and Its Next Upgrades
Work toward Canadian Canoe + Starter Engine + Prisoner + White as a practical early racing combination. Add each category as your budget allows:
- Canadian Canoe: the boat supplies the racing gains in the comparison above and also helps with hatch preparation.
- Starter Engine: adds Wins and Acc while retaining Train for your sessions between races. At Level 3, it supplies +12% Wins, +24% Acc, and +12% Train.
- Prisoner: contributes +30% Wins and +20% Acc from the partner category, plus +20% Luck. Check its purchase button before committing your budget; see the partner guide for its equipment details.
- White: fills the trail category with the +50% Wins and +50% Acc bonuses listed above.
Choose the next replacement by its gain
Once you have Canadian Canoe, Starter Engine Level 3, and White, these purchases improve different parts of the build. Prices below are full purchase prices; gains are percentage points over the named replacement.
| Next purchase | Price | Replaces | New item’s bonuses | Gain over the replaced item |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Jet | 500 Wins | Starter Engine Level 3 | +15% Wins, +30% Acc, +15% Train | +3 points Wins, +6 points Acc, +3 points Train |
| Red | 800 Wins | White | +100% Wins, +100% Acc | +50 points Wins, +50 points Acc |
| Boat | 1,000 Wins | Canadian Canoe | +35% Wins, +10% Luck, +80% Acc | +15 points Wins, +3 points Luck, +30 points Acc |
Favor Red when your next purchase is specifically for Wins and Acc. It offers the largest increase in those two displayed bonuses among these replacements. Favor Standard Jet when training also matters, or Boat when you want racing bonuses and a Luck improvement together. These are alternative savings goals, not a required purchase order.
If you already have 800 Wins available for a trail, you can choose Red directly; you do not need to buy White first. The White versus Red comparison covers that choice, while the early engine tier list expands on upgrading Starter versus saving for Standard Jet.
Keep building Power between races. When the Wins II achievement reaches its 500-Wins target, claim its +10% Wins Rewards bonus in Achi; achievement progress is separate from your spendable balance.
A Training Build for the Next Treadmill
For training, prioritize an equipped engine with Train, your available pets, and the highest treadmill your Power unlocks.
Starter Engine provides +10% Train at Level 1, +11% at Level 2, and +12% at Level 3. If you already own Level 1, the 70-Wins upgrade path is a modest way to improve your current setup. If you can save 500 Wins, Standard Jet offers +15% Train alongside its racing bonuses. Keep saving when buying the larger upgrade matters more than getting a smaller boost immediately.
Equip your available pets before training. If you own both Frost Angel and Dog, prioritize Frost Angel when choosing between them: its displayed multiplier is 3.2x, compared with Dog’s 1.1x. Those labels support the selection, but they are not specific Train percentages. Dog remains useful when it is the pet you have; the pet guide covers sources and inventory details.
At 1,000 Power, move to the green SPEED 2 treadmill and press E / Train. That Power threshold unlocks access rather than charging you 1,000 Power. Also open Achi and claim Strength I once completed for its +5% Train Boost reward.
For later thresholds and an estimate based on your actual training gains, use the treadmill guide and Power goal calculator.
Luck Equipment Before Hatching
Equip the boat with the best Luck bonus you already own, and use Prisoner’s +20% Luck in the separate partner category.
| Boat | Purchase cost | Displayed Luck bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Wooden Raft | Starting boat | +5% |
| Canadian Canoe | 100 Wins | +7% |
| Boat | 1,000 Wins | +10% |
| Motor Boat | 320,000 Wins | +25% |
For an early budget, Canadian Canoe is a manageable improvement over Wooden Raft, especially when you also want its racing bonuses. If you already own Boat, use its higher Luck before opening eggs. Motor Boat is a much later savings goal; its price makes it unsuitable as an early hatch-preparation purchase.
Keep enough Wins for the eggs you intend to open after buying equipment. If a boat upgrade would use your entire hatch budget, use your current boat and save toward the replacement separately. Treat the listed Luck values as equipment bonuses, not direct percentage-point increases to a particular pet’s hatch chance.
Use the egg locations and hatching guide to choose a stand, check the starter pool, and plan the openings themselves.
Make Sure the Build Is Equipped
Before racing, training, or hatching, check the active item in each menu. Owning or previewing an item does not mean it is equipped.
- Boats: after unlocking your choice, select Equip. Confirm Equipped and the green check on that boat.
- Engine: if the counter is full at 1/1, select the old engine and press Unequip to reach 0/1. Select the replacement, press Equip, and confirm the counter returns to 1/1. The engine equipment guide also covers the “Cannot Equip More Engines” message.
- Partner: select Prisoner and look for the green check and Unequip button, which indicate that it is active.
- Pets: open the paw-print menu and check the equipped counter and card checkmarks separately from the inventory count. A counter of 1/3 means only one pet is equipped out of three available slots. The menu includes Equip Best; check your equipped selection afterward.
- Trail: open the rainbow-icon menu and check which color has the green check. The active trail’s detail button shows Unequip; previewing another color alone does not switch it.
