Early Engine Tier List for Boat Race with 99 Engines

Last updated:

Your next engine investment depends on both your Wins budget and the level you already own. Compare Basic Engine, Starter Engine and Standard Jet to choose between a small upgrade and a stronger replacement.

Recommended early-game tiers are Standard Jet in S tier, Starter Engine in A tier and Basic Engine in B tier. With Basic Engine at Level 2 and 100 Wins to spend, buy Starter: its Level 1 bonuses beat Basic at Level 6 for the same additional cost. Already own Starter? Spend 70 Wins to reach Level 3 for a smaller immediate boost, or save 500 Wins for Standard Jet's higher bonuses.

Early Engine Tiers at a Glance

These editorial tiers weigh purchase cost alongside Wins, Acc and Train bonuses: Basic through Level 6, Starter through Level 3 and Standard Jet at purchase.

  • S — Standard Jet: The strongest combined training and racing target among these early options. Its 500-Win price buys higher bonuses in all three categories than Starter at Level 3.
  • A — Starter Engine: The best smaller replacement investment. For 100 Wins, its starting bonuses already beat Basic at Level 6, with an affordable upgrade path to Level 3.
  • B — Basic Engine: A useful starting engine with a cheap first upgrade. Further investment becomes less attractive once you can afford Starter.

Use the engine catalog to look up model prices and level-specific properties. If your next purchase could be a boat or another equipment category, see the early buying priorities.

At 100 Wins, Replace Basic Engine

If you own Basic Engine at Level 2 and have 100 Wins available, buy Starter Engine. Taking Basic from Level 2 to Level 6 costs 10 + 20 + 30 + 40 = 100 Wins, yet the result still falls below Starter's starting bonuses.

Choice from Basic Level 2 Additional cost Resulting Wins bonus Resulting Acc bonus Resulting Train bonus
Upgrade Basic to Level 6 100 Wins +8% +15% +8%
Buy Starter at Level 1 100 Wins +10% +20% +10%

For the same additional spend, Starter finishes 2 percentage points ahead in Wins, 5 in Acc and 2 in Train. The 4 Wins previously spent reaching Basic Level 2 are already spent under either choice.

To put the replacement to work, open Engine using the left-side rocket icon and buy Starter. If the counter is full and you see Cannot equip more engines, select Basic and click Unequip, then select Starter and click Equip. Confirm the green equipped check; unlocking the engine alone does not activate it.

Upgrade Starter or Save for Standard Jet?

Once you own Starter at Level 1, the choice is between a modest improvement now and a larger purchase later.

Next investment Cost from an owned Starter Level 1 Resulting Wins bonus Resulting Acc bonus Resulting Train bonus
Upgrade Starter to Level 3 70 Wins +12% +24% +12%
Buy Standard Jet 500 Wins +15% +30% +15%
  • Upgrade Starter when you want a smaller immediate boost. Its two upgrades cost 20 + 50 = 70 Wins and add 2 percentage points of Wins, 4 of Acc and 2 of Train over Level 1. This is a practical choice when you plan to keep training with Starter and 500 Wins is still a distant target. Including its original purchase, Starter Level 3 costs 170 Wins in total.
  • Save for Standard Jet when the stronger replacement is your priority. Its purchase bonuses exceed Starter Level 3 by 3 percentage points of Wins, 6 of Acc and 3 of Train. If you already have 500 Wins available for an engine, choose Standard Jet over these Starter upgrades.

Spending 70 Wins now leaves 70 fewer Wins toward the Jet. Choose the immediate training benefit if you need it; otherwise, preserve the purchase budget. The bonus differences alone do not establish how quickly an upgrade will earn back its cost.

Use the engine upgrade guide and cost calculator for other covered level ranges, or estimate the races needed for your purchase using your own average race earnings.

When Basic Engine Still Makes Sense

Keep using Basic while your replacement budget is below 100 Wins. It starts equipped, and its first tutorial upgrade costs just 4 Wins. At Level 2, it provides +6% Wins, +11% Acc and +6% Train.

Complete that first upgrade at Engine Upgrade beside START, under the red-and-white umbrella: enter the yellow circle, press E / Open, and use Upgrade on Basic's row. Then keep it equipped while you build the budget for Starter.

Basic's B tier reflects its role in early progression and the value of its upgrades through Level 6. It is not a rating of every later level. Once Starter is within reach, prioritize that replacement over continuing the Basic upgrade chain.
